Camp Gan Israel Cherry Hill
Junior Counselor – Guidelines & Procedures

The Mission of Camp Gan Israel

To provide a safe, fun and uplifting summer day camp experience for Jewish children, where a love for Judaism is taught through joy, care, and meaningful staff-camper connections.

Why am I in camp?

As a Junior Counselor, you’re a vital member of the staff team. You're not just helping—you’re stepping into real responsibility. You support the counselor by helping manage campers, lead activities, and maintain a smooth daily routine.

Junior Counselors are expected to be proactive, reliable, and engaged. Campers will look to you for guidance, support, and fun.

What is my job?

  • Actively assist with group management – help maintain order, keep campers focused, and support transitions between activities
  • Be hands-on – lead games, help with activities, and support individual campers
  • Step in when needed – redirect behavior when appropriate and report serious issues to counselor
  • Stay engaged and bring positive energy at all times

What should I do in camp?

  • Sign in and out daily at the front desk
  • Place your phone in your assigned slot immediately upon arrival
  • Be on time every day
  • Stay with your assigned bunk unless instructed otherwise
  • Keep walkie-talkie on at all times
  • Lead with energy, enthusiasm, and kindness

What should I NOT do in camp?

  • No phone use during camp hours
  • No inappropriate or adult conversations around campers
  • No leaving your group without permission
  • No entering bathrooms with campers (stand outside only)
  • No physical contact beyond appropriate gestures (high five only)
  • Do not ignore instructions from staff

What do I do if I have a problem?

Speak to your Counselor or Head Counselor. If needed, speak to Rabbi Yitzchok or Baily. We are here to support you.
