The Mission of Camp Gan Israel
To provide a safe, fun, and uplifting summer experience where children grow through joy, friendship, and a deepened love for Judaism in a warm and caring environment.

What is my job?
Counselors are the primary caregivers for campers, responsible for supervision, engagement, safety, and creating a positive, structured, and meaningful camp experience.
- Supervise your bunk at all times and ensure camper safety
- Lead and participate in all activities with energy and involvement
- Encourage camper participation, teamwork, and positive behavior
- Support daily routines, transitions, and group organization
- Model Jewish values and positive behavior at all times
Core Responsibilities
- Supervision: Maintain full responsibility for campers at all times, including trips and transitions
- Engagement: Ensure campers are actively participating and enjoying all programs
- Program Support: Assist with activities including sports, art, music, trips, and special events
- Jewish Values: Model and inspire love of Torah, mitzvot, and Jewish pride through example and interaction
- Safety: Follow all safety procedures and immediately report concerns to leadership
Daily Expectations
- Arrive on time and prepared each day
- Stay with your assigned group at all times
- Maintain a clean, organized bunk environment
- Follow staff schedule, instructions, and announcements
- Keep energy, patience, and positivity throughout the day
What should I NOT do?
- No phone use during camp hours
- No leaving campers unattended or unsupervised
- No inappropriate language or conversations around campers
- No physical contact beyond appropriate, safe interactions
- No ignoring instructions from leadership staff
Health, Safety & Responsibility
- Be alert to camper emotional and physical needs
- Report all injuries, concerns, or incidents immediately
- Follow all emergency procedures and safety protocols
- Assist campers as needed during emergencies or transitions
Communication & Leadership
- Communicate respectfully with staff, parents, and leadership
- Provide positive feedback about campers whenever possible
- Ask questions when unsure – clarity prevents mistakes
- Support Head Counselors and program leadership decisions
